As part of Black History Month, the LGBTQ+ Society at London Metropolitan University, in collaboration with the LGBTQ+ Officer and the BAEMS Officer, is hosting an insightful and empowering event focusing on Black queerness and the experiences of being Black and/or Black and queer in today’s world.
This event provides a safe and inclusive platform for students to share their stories, perspectives, and lived experiences. It aims to highlight the intersectionality of Black and queer identities, exploring how these identities coexist, interact, and shape individuals’ experiences within broader social and cultural contexts.
While society has made significant progress in advancing equality and representation, Black and black queer communities continue to face unique challenges, including systemic discrimination, cultural marginalisation, and barriers to visibility. Through open dialogue and shared narratives, this event seeks to shed light on these ongoing struggles while also celebrating the resilience, joy, and strength that define Black queer experiences.
We warmly invite Black and Black queer students to join us for an open and engaging conversation where we can listen, learn, and celebrate together. This event reaffirms the university’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, understanding, and community empowerment.
